Why is it important to Relax?
Relaxation gives us more energy, clears and clarifies the mind, unfolds the emotions and provides the foundation for more enjoyable, productive activity. Many people don’t realise but by taking the time to relax, we will actually be able to accomplish more when active. Additionally taking time to relax has been shown to positively impact: Your heart, and risk of heart disease, how frequently you catch a cold, Your memory, Depression and your Weight
What Prevents us from Relaxing?
Our ability to relax is a combination of our external environment and our internal nutrition. Certain jobs, lifestyles and personality types may find it difficult to stop to take a breather and due to an increasingly hectic lifestyle you may find yourself saying “I just don’t have time to relax” or “When I do find time, I just can’t seem to relax”. It makes sense that when our environment is rocky we have to pay extra attention to our nutrition if we want to stay relaxed. Particularly our intake of:
Magnesium – due to the modern diet, most of the western world are deficient in magnesium and its importance can often be felt. Magnesium is released into muscles when we want them to relax (when we want to to tense them Zinc is released). Therefore diets deficient in Magnesium can leave the body tense, with tension pains and unable to relax
Amino acids such as phenylethylamine and tryptophan boost energy and brain function, aid relaxation, and elevate mood
